Why do you think that Ponyboy was so upset that Jonny was dead?
I think that Ponyby was so upset that Jonny was dead because they had a bond after being the the church together for a week. Also it was one of his friends and anyone would be sad if one of their friends died.

I think Ponyboy was so upset when Johnny died because he was the one that Ponyboy really related to. Johnny was the one he went through all the trouble with. He was upset because he didn't think that the gang could get along without him.
