I think that the gang doesn’t necessarily respect Ponyboy but they do accept him. If I were Ponyboy I wouldn’t care if they respected me. As long as I have protection I would be fine if they didn’t respect me.
I disagree with Sam because I do believe the gang respects him. On page 135 they are listening to Ponyboy’s request to be able to fight in the rumble. At first Dally doesn’t agree, but soon the gang and Dally change their minds and listens to Ponyboy’s request. That is respect because Dally and the gang are allowing Ponyboy to do what he wants to do.
