Johnny killed Bob in a moment of desperation when he thought Ponyboy was going to drown. He did save his friend’s life, but he ended another’s life at the same time, so that was not the right thing to do. Johnny killed Bob because his extreme fear of the Socs clouded his thinking. If he had been less scared, he could have tried to fight the Socs away instead of killing one of them, or even better, he could have tried to get help, which would have eliminated violence. Johnny acted rashly, and if he had lived, I know he would have made a better choice the next time.
